Technology Doesn’t Solve Problems, Experts Do
Does a CMS help your SEO? - Mike Moran’s Article, Our Response
January 4, 2011
Of course, our answer and his, is yes, it CAN help if it is done right.
We noticed that this article was getting tweeted and retweeted today so we thought we would make some annotations to his article in a quick blog post.
Mike Moran notes that:
“The truth is that a CMS can be a fantastic thing for SEO, but only if it is done right. If you screw it up, it can take a high-ranking site and turn it into a search ghost town.”
We couldn’t agree more with this. This is precisely why GeekPAK doesn’t let YOU screw it up. Unlike so many buzzy CMS tools out there, every copy of GeekPAK comes with our team of experts. You don’t have to worry about setting it up correctly or “screwing it up” because we implement your site so that you can focus on creating content while our CMS and SEO tools automatically perform the critical functions you need.
Mike Moran goes on to say:
“Many content management systems have perfectly awful default settings, when it comes to SEO. They don't include description tags in the template, or they force all pages to have the same title, or they create dynamic URLs, or they block content from crawling, or they produce duplicate content, and 20 other problems.”
Again, we agree. Which is exactly why GeekPAK is both a proven CMS with over 10 years of implementation as well as a team of experts who make sure you don’t get “perfectly awful default settings”.
Our CMS takes care of all of the key technical issues allowing you to focus on creating content, managing your social networks and managing your brand. The GeekPAK CMS enters title tags, description tags, keywords and generates Sitemap Protocol compliant xml files for your website. GeekPAK also generates short human readable, search engine friendly URLs that can also be used as understandable short URLs in your tweets.
Finally, Mike Moran goes on to note:
“So, when you make the decision to use a CMS, and it's still a good decision for all the reasons above, take special care to have an expert configure your installation so that you avoid these SEO problems and instead reap the benefits.”
You can accomplish this most easily by using the GeekPAK CMS, because when you do, you get an “expert [who] configures your installation”. What’s more, you get a team of experts you can call or email at any time when you need help.
Finally, there is one important way that a CMS can help your SEO that Mike Moran fails to point out. It’s a simple thing, it’s called content. Search engines love content, after all, it’s what they do. They help people find content. The biggest benefit a CMS can provide your SEO is that it makes it easy for you to create content. You can have the best SEO strategy in the world, but without the content to go with it, what would the search engine search?
You don’t need to be an expert, you don’t need to understand every buzzword and acronym to have a successful site. All you need to do is choose the right tools and the right partner to help you implement them. Then you can get down to the business of running your business.
When you choose GeekPAK, you get both.
