Access Living is a cross-disability organization governed and staffed by a majority of people with disabilities. Access Living fosters the dignity, pride and self-esteem of people with disabilities and enhances the options available to them so they may choose and maintain individualized and satisfying lifestyles.
In order to better serve this mission, Access Living wanted a 21st century website that would match it's state of the art universal and green designed headquarters. Access Living needed a web tool that would help them help individuals with disabilities.
GeekPAK drew upon it's experience building healthcare websites, specifically it's long history of patient education through accessible content at RIC's LIFE Center to meet Access Living's goals. Drawing upon this experience GeekPAK used it's content management system to create an accessible website for Access Living that ensured that all users would have access to their critical content. This was accomplished through the use of a dynamic adaptable interface that could be changed in real-time to meet the needs of the typical web visitor or the needs of those who use screen readers or who are visually impaired. In addition the entire site was developed to be standards compliant meeting all of the accessibility standards put forth by the W3C and the US Government. Like their headquarters, the Access Living website was developed to demonstrate that accessible design can include everyone and still be aesthetically pleasing and cost effective.
GeekPAK not only developed a website that was disability friendly, it also developed a site that included all of the information, tools, and people that Access Living has to offer. Every issue, every department and every solution can be found on the new Access Living website. What's more, it can be found in print, video, American Sign Language, spanish and downloadable form.
Finally, with the GeekPAK CMS, Access Living is able to maintain the site on their own, posting the newest information and serving the disability community in ways it never could have before.
