Bag It & Tag ItGeekPAK Selects Lakeview Pantry for 2008 Volunteer ServiceFebruary 23, 2008
Today, GeekPAK team members decided to strain their backs and contribute to their community. By bagging groceries at the Lakeview Pantry, GeekPAK was able to help out over 70 families in need of food. Earlier this year, GeekPAK sent out an e-blast asking for charity, donation and volunteer opportunities for 2008. After receiving a number of great options, GeekPAK has selected to devote their volunteer services to the Lakeview Pantry. People in need can visit the Lakeview Pantry once a month and walk out with enough food to last them for two weeks - enough to make their lives a little less of a struggle. The Lakeview Pantry is a non-profit organization with the mission of eliminating hunger in the Lakeview community by providing food to fill the basic need of hungry people, increase client's independence through self-help initiatives and other innovative programs, and raise awareness of poverty and its solutions. With the Lakeview Pantry's close proximity, range of volunteer opportunities, and overall nurturing (both mental and physical) environment, GeekPAK couldn't pass up the opportunity to give back to their immediate community through food – life's most basic necessity. Thanks to all who participated in submitting charity, donation and volunteer suggestions. Below are some other opportunities GeekPAK received. Feel free to contact these people and organizations directly to find out more information.
Big Wigs Live! It is a female impersonation show with a twist! All proceeds raised will be split between two organizations, Equality Illinois and Seasons of Concern. You can check out the events website as well as the events beneficiaries sites seasonofconcern.org and equalityillinois.org.
